In The Shadows: Example

Something like this, probably brighter.

  1. Looks great! More questions for you: Will most (or all) of the underground be unlit requiring you to regularly have a torch equipped? Will you be able to place torches? And, if a torch is almost always required, will you eventually get armor that glows bright enough to not require you to have a torch equipped?

Personally, I kind of like the idea of complete darkness if you lack a source of light. It could make your already dynamic fighting system even more intricate. Like, maybe you drop a torch and stay within it's glowing safety to equip a second weapon or a shield to fight certain monsters, but then pick it back up to continue. And if you don't have a torch, it could be complete darkness and all you could see are certain enemies glowing, red eyes! Man, I should make my own video game! :P

    1. Yes, I have thought or red eyes. It will happen.

-- The underground will be completely dark except for already lit torches, glowing objects/monsters, and other fire/lava elements.

Will you be able to place torches?
-- Yes. You may or may not be able to pick them up again once placed. If you can pick them back up, they may be less common. You will be able to find them in chests and in torch holders (already burning on the walls). Empty holders will allow for torch placement.

-- Some items will illuminate in different colors, whether it be armor, swords, shields. I suppose flaming arrows could stick around for a short period if they hit a wall (actually, that would be totally badass, so will probably do that!) Also, notching a flaming arrow would work like a torch in this case. Magic potions and spells can also emit light or give the player night-vision!

Teaming up with friends would also allow for a combat player while the other heals and casts light.
